The Journey
About This Voyage
The Nile is the river upon which civilisation itself was built — a ribbon of green flowing through the world's most storied landscape. This twelve-day journey pairs Egypt's greatest monuments — the pyramids of Giza, the temples of Karnak, the tombs of the Valley of the Kings, and the colossi of Abu Simbel — with seven unhurried days on the water between Luxor and Aswan, sailing the same river the pharaohs did.
Day by Day
Your Itinerary
Day 1
Cairo, Egypt
Arrive in Cairo, the Gateway to Egypt. Settle into your five-star hotel with views toward the pyramids and gather for a welcome dinner.
Day 2
Cairo, Egypt
A full day among the wonders of the Old Kingdom — the Great Pyramids of Giza, the enigmatic Sphinx, the step pyramid of Saqqara, and the treasures of the Grand Egyptian Museum.
Day 3
Luxor, Egypt
Fly south to Luxor and board your cruise ship on the east bank of the Nile. Afternoon at the Temple of Karnak — the largest religious complex of the ancient world — and an evening visit to the illuminated Luxor Temple.
Day 4
Luxor West Bank, Egypt
Cross to the Theban necropolis. Descend into the tombs of the Valley of the Kings, stand before the terraced Temple of Hatshepsut, and meet the Colossi of Memnon.
Day 5
Esna, Egypt
Cruise south through the Esna Lock — a favourite ritual of every Nile voyage — and visit the Temple of Khnum, buried for centuries beneath the modern town.
Day 6
Edfu, Egypt
Travel by horse-drawn carriage to the Temple of Horus, the best-preserved temple in all of Egypt. Sail on toward Kom Ombo through palm-fringed countryside.
Day 7
Kom Ombo, Egypt
Visit the unique double temple dedicated to the crocodile god Sobek and the falcon god Haroeris, its walls carved with ancient surgical instruments and a chapel of mummified crocodiles.
Day 8
Aswan, Egypt
Arrive in Egypt's southernmost city. Reach the Temple of Philae by motorboat, then drift past Elephantine Island aboard a traditional felucca as the sun sets over the granite quarries.
Day 9
Abu Simbel, Egypt
An early excursion to the twin temples of Ramses II at Abu Simbel — four seated colossi, 20 metres tall, guarding the most dramatic monument in Egypt. Return to Aswan for an afternoon at leisure.
Day 10
Aswan, Egypt
Visit the High Dam and the Unfinished Obelisk, then explore a colourful Nubian village on the west bank. Final evening aboard with a farewell dinner of Egyptian specialities.
Day 11
Disembark in Aswan
Disembark after breakfast and fly back to Cairo. The afternoon is yours to wander the Khan el-Khalili bazaar, a maze of spice stalls, lantern makers, and centuries-old coffeehouses.
Day 12
Depart Cairo
Transfer to Cairo airport for your onward flight. Optional extensions to Alexandria or the Red Sea coast available.
